How TodayGoodTime calculates the day
We publish the convention because two Panchangs can differ without either being careless. Location, timezone, ayanamsa and sunrise rules all matter.
Local solar day
Sunrise and sunset are calculated from the selected latitude, longitude and civil date using the standard apparent-sunrise altitude. Rahu Kalam and Yamaganda divide the local daylight interval into eight weekday-dependent parts.
Moon and Sun
Tithi uses the angular separation of the geocentric Moon and Sun. Nakshatra uses the Moon’s sidereal longitude divided into 27 equal sections. Yoga combines sidereal solar and lunar longitude.
Sidereal convention
The current engine uses a Lahiri-style ayanamsa approximation. Results close to a Nakshatra boundary may differ from software using another ephemeris, ayanamsa or timezone interpretation.
Birth profiles
Birth time is interpreted in the timezone returned for the birthplace. The calculated birth Nakshatra can be overridden with a trusted family or priest record. Gothram does not change the astronomical calculation.
Personal daily note
The selected birth star is compared with the day’s star using the ninefold Tara Bala cycle. This is general traditional guidance, not a complete chart reading or guarantee.
What we still verify
Important ceremonies require a complete purpose-specific Muhurta and may follow regional rules not captured by a general daily tool. If you find a discrepancy, send the date, exact local time, birthplace and comparison source to info@todaygoodtime.com.
